D.Billy draws connections between seemingly unrelated phenomena, floating possibilities that seem absurd at the outset, in order to subvert traditional ways of thinking for both himself and the viewer. In two concurrent bodies of work, D. encourages a re-examination of surroundings and objects that are usually taken for granted: The first, a series of semi-narrative mixed-media scenes using images and language culled from comic books, instruction manuals, product advertisements, and children’s activity books. The second, a collection of photographs documenting playful site interventions where D. has added visual representations of sound effects to found scenes.
